Permits & flights finalised

Gav will be flying to Calcutta on March 24th to travel up to Kathmandu, and leave there on 1st April to get to Base Camp 16 days later. Lots of people will be joining him on the trek.

PHOTO: Gav on Everest's South Summit in 2000

The permit has been accepted, the equipment is being supplied by Berghaus and some of it is being tested in Russia this winter on Elbrus.

The plan is to acclimatise on Island Peak and Ama Dablam. There will be a cache of gear stored at Camp Two (Western Cwm) at around 22,000'. Gav will then go for the summit Alpine style from there, camping on the Lhotse Face and on the South Col before making the summit bid.

Estimated expedition duration - 10 weeks

Gav will be calling into Rich Sheane who runs the IT side of AA, and all his comments will be recorded and put on the website so you can follow all thats happening! Because it's solo without oxygen or support, weight is the biggest issue. So no laptops, no heavy batteries, no big cameras. Just minimal gear. Speaking of equipment ...

Berghaus Infinity Pro

Berghaus has come out with a new lightweight down jacket, the Infinity Pro, in fetching blue and a brilliant piece of kit it is. Gav uses it on Elbrus and will be using it on Everest. Highly recommended, very well made and reasonably priced.
