Everest
SE Ridge 09
and the MyEverest Challenge
& MyEverest Challenge
This year I will be climbing Mt Everest for the fifth time, guiding two people and using bottled oxygen, employing three climbing Sherpas and stocking four camps.
This trip is also another chance for me to raise money for the charity I started called Moving Mountains which is now in it's tenth year of operation in Kenya and in Nepal.
This site chronicles the story so far and covers the last four Everest
expeditions. However all the news, info and updates relevant to this
year can be found on the following new website:
In the last ten years Moving Mountains projects have been consistently successful, the number of beneficiaries has grown beyond our expectations, and integrity is one of the main tenets of our increasing popularity.
Climbing Mt Everest four times has enabled me to raise an estimated £550,000 for the charity, and hopefully this expedition will add to that figure. Only this time, the challenge need not be just mine! It can be yours too.
MyEverest
We are asking our supporters to carry out their own fundraising challenge, to be carried out at the same time as Gavin's summit bid on Everest in the 3rd week of May.
It can be any challenge - as long as it is challenging! We will help you set up your own fundraising page or provide you with sponsorship sheets. What would be great is if you could climb a hill yourself, and help me to climb mine.
The fundraiser who raises the most money will win an original, framed picture of the summit ridge of Everest which was taken by Gavin on the 16th May 2000, on the day of the first summit of the mountain in the new Millennium (see above).
Let us know what your challenge is and lets try to get as many people as possible raising money. A lot of people raising a modest amount each is far easier!
Or you could support some people who have already made a big commitment to their challenge - the Kenyans themselves!
Kenyan MyEverest - support your favourite!

Four teams of our favourite Kenyans will be setting themselves the challenge of climbing Mount Kenya (up the difficult and lengthy Chogoria Route) at the same time as I will be going for the top of Everest! They also have a dedicated fundraising page to visit and make a donation online. - http://www.justgiving.com/ot_and_kioni
The Kenyan teams are -
Kelly Kioko & Gilbert Njeru
Rosie Gathirimu & Eva Muronji
Maurice Odindo & Wyclif Odongo
Jackton Otieno & Francis Kioni
The MyEverest Challenge target is £50,000.00.
